Képaláírás: The "Lánchíd" (Chain Bridge), one of the first suspension bridges on the Continent, was built by Hungarian son the initiative of Széchenyi István gróf (Count Stephen Széchenyi), without any assistance on the part of the ruling dynasty, - indeed, during the Hungarian War of Independence, in 1849, the Austrian soldiers who remained true to the Vienna Government and defied the Hungarians actually tried to blow it up before it was completed. However, the person who made the attempt - Colonel Alnoch - perished; while the "Széchenyi Chain Bridge" remains still one of the most superb monuments of bridge architecture.
